Ready Set Serve is dedicated to unlocking potential and shaping the future by providing transformative experiences that nurture growth, enrich lives, and empower a generation of capable and compassionate changemakers.
Ready Set Serve is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering Detroit-area youth through comprehensive mentoring and educational, civic, and life skill programs.
We work to enhance and improve the quality of life and well-being of young people, preparing them to become productive individuals who are actively engaged in their communities.
We envision a society where young people are well-informed, involved, and committed to creating positive change.
In today’s rapidly evolving world, young people face significant challenges and opportunities as they transition from adolescence to adulthood. While academic knowledge is valuable, success demands essential life skills like financial literacy, communication, self-care, time management, and civic engagement. Unfortunately, many students graduate without the practical tools they need to navigate adulthood with confidence.
Recognizing this gap, LaTasha Washington founded Ready Set Serve. Inspired by a deep passion for service and leadership, she envisioned a program that would equip young people with the skills, knowledge, and real-world experiences necessary to become capable, compassionate, and engaged members of their communities.
LaTasha Washington is a trailblazing entrepreneur, activist and advocate. She has dedicated her career to bridging the gap between academic success and essential life skills, ensuring young people are equipped to thrive in adulthood.
As the founder and executive director of Ready Set Serve, LaTasha works to empower youth with critical life skills and civic engagement opportunities. Her commitment to education and community service stems from a lifelong passion for eradicating disparities and preparing the next generation for leadership and success.
Beyond Ready Set Serve, LaTasha is the driving force behind Customize Service Group and HandiConsumer. Through HandiConsumer, she advocates for accessibility and inclusivity, inspired by her own experience overcoming a life-changing disability.
A graduate of Eastern Michigan University, LaTasha’s expertise spans program development, business marketing, and management services including project, program and operations. Her remarkable accomplishments and invaluable contributions have not only transformed countless lives but also inspired others to create change in their communities and beyond.

Ready Set Serve provides life skills and civic engagement programs for high school students and young adults. Our civic engagement events and initiatives are nonpartisan and do not endorse or promote candidates. Our primary goal is to help participants understand the importance of participating in the democratic process and to encourage informed and active citizenship through voting.
Life Ready Academy is a dynamic, 26-week program that addresses the critical need for comprehensive life skills education for youth. The program’s combination of hands-on learning, community involvement, and real-world applications ensures that students not only succeed academically but also develop into well-rounded, responsible citizens with aspirations for higher education and lifelong learning.
Life Ready Academy complements schools' civics and community engagement curriculum, reinforcing key lessons through hands-on learning and interactive activities. Led by trained facilitators and industry experts, students gain practical knowledge and skills that translate into everyday life. In addition to our standard curriculum, Life Ready Academy offers customized programs tailored to the needs of schools, community organizations, and institutions, ensuring accessibility and relevance for diverse groups of students.
Ready Set Serve thrives on collaboration and seeks partners who can provide real-world experiences for our program participants. Whether you’re a nonprofit in need of volunteers, a government agency interested in hosting a site visit, or an individual eager to share industry expertise, there are countless ways to get involved.
We welcome businesses, associations, and civic groups to join us in shaping the next generation of engaged citizens and future leaders. From mentorship and job shadowing to speaking engagements and community service projects, your support can make a lasting impact.
